Solution for Activation Page not working

If the link on the "Activation Page" does not restore default access to the Wikipedia Mobile Web Interface (Mobile View), delete Wikipedia's cookies to restore default access by completing the following steps on an iPhone:

  1. Close any Wikipedia pages you may have open in the web browser (you may also need to force Safari closed)
  2. From the iPhone Home screen, tap "Settings";
  3. Scroll down and tap "Safari";
  4. Scroll down and tap "Advanced";
  5. Tap "Website Data";
  6. Delete Wikipedia's cookie(s). There are two ways to do this:
6a. Option A - Tap the red, "Remove All Website Data" button. While simple, this affects all web site cookies and not just Wikipedia's; it also closes any open Mobile Safari web pages and clears saved form data.
6b. Option B - Requires more time, but only affects Wikipedia web sites.
6b1. Scroll down and tap "Show All Sites" (this may take several minutes to load, depending on how many sites/how much data you have);
6b2. Click "Edit";
6b3. Scroll through the list of sites and tap the red circled minus "-" sign and then "Delete" next to every entry that contains all or any part of .wikipedia.org, .wiki.org, .wikipedia.com, or .wiki.com
(n.b. Cookies are ordered by descending size; Wikipedia's cookies have been in the 0.2 KB and 0.1 KB size ranges)
6b4. Tap "Done".

Finally, open Safari and type "Wikipedia" into the Google search box. When the results load, click the link to en.wikipedia.org, and you will be automatically redirected to the mobile view of the site. -- Preceding unsigned comment added by 166.147.99.98 (talk) 19:01, 23 May 2012 (UTC)

Confirming that this worked for me. After a year of tearing my hair out over this issue, the solution above solved it for me on my iPhone 4, iOS 5.0. THANK YOU! ALbino (talk) 03:12, 17 June 2012 (UTC)
Confirming that this worked for my iPhone 4S, iOS 5.1.1 too; although, I had to modify step 1. and force Safari closed instead of just closing the wikipedia web pages. Here's how to force Safari to close (caveat emptor: this also closes all of your web pages):
1a. From the home screen, click the home button twice quickly and a row of app icons will appear at the bottom
1b. Tap and hold on the Safari icon at the bottom
1c. When it starts to jiggle, tap the red circled minus "-" sign to force Safari closed
1d. Click the home button twice quickly again and then go to Settings (step 2 above)
This only worked, however, until I visited the "Desktop" version again (Update: (Aug 15) see below for longer lasting workarounds). sn?u?????? (talk) 00:09, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
This also worked for me, but I chose to tap the red "Remove All Website Data" button (at the bottom of the list) instead of trying to find the Wikipedia items among many hundred items. This also ended up removing my open tabs in Mobile Safari, which was unexpected but OK for me. Dreamyshade (talk) 22:39, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
For reference, this problem is filed as Bug 38009. Dreamyshade (talk) 10:33, 13 August 2012 (UTC)
According to that bug page, this problem has been fixed! Dreamyshade (talk) 22:21, 25 October 2012 (UTC)

Two More Ways to Re-enable the Mobile Redirect for iOS Devices

  • Workaround 1: Enable Safari's Private Browsing feature on your iOS device (iPhone, iPod, etc...) by opening the "Settings" app, scroll down and tap on "Safari", then set "Private Browsing" to "On". This will prevent Safari from sending out cookies and will restore Wikipedia's mobile redirect feature.
  • Workaround 2: (Superseded as of 2012-08-15; see below) Create an account on Wikipedia and then edit your Custom Javascript page to add this javascript:
Your Custom Javascript page is also linked from the Appearance section of your Preferences page. The code will detect an iPhone or iPod browser and then set the stopMobileRedirect cookie to false. This allows the mobile version of Wikipedia to work normally again. This was inspired by Nihiltres post on Yahoo! Answers and the cookie code below.

Manually Unset the stopMobileRedirect Cookie Using Special Javascript URL

I tried executing the following lines in Chrome. This doesn't work:

And this works:

Stop gap solution

I added a script to the english wikipedia, that basically does the trick User:Mwarren us proposed, to fix this problem at least for this specific WMF website. It's not ideal, but it will have to do until they get around to fixing bugzilla:38009. Note that it might take quite a while before you notice the effect, Safari on iOS does quite aggressive caching and is ignoring some of the cache hints apparently. I had to clear my cache for this specific website to confirm the fix. --TheDJ (talk o contribs) 15:46, 15 August 2012 (UTC)

It now seems to be working again for me. Hooray! Thanks to all involved!68.205.26.8 (talk) 05:51, 10 March 2011 (UTC)

Not working for me, iOS 5.1.1 on iPhone 3Gs, 12 May 2012 166.137.140.34(talk) 14:34, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

Definitely still not working.... Gerweck (talk) 03:26, 19 June 2012 (UTC)

Solution does not work

Does not work for me either (iPhone 4, iOS 5) despite clearing caches and scripts. Keep ending at desktop articles. -- Preceding unsigned comment added by 2.28.183.94 (talk) 21:08, 6 August 2012 (UTC)

Not working! Cant go back to automatic redirection to mobile version!!! :-(

This does not work for me! I want my phone always to redirect to the mobile site! I don't even know how it stopped, but I know that I want the mobile view back permanently and that this solution doesn't help! --Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.15.192.246 (talk) 21:48, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

Confirmed that this solution does not work. I am using an iPhone 3GS. --Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.36.179.50 (talk) 01:31, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

I also confirm that this solution does not work. I am using an iPhone 4 and does not set Safari back to Wikipedia Mobile Format by default. --Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.226.88.118 (talk) 03:26, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

Not working for me, either. iPhone 3GS, iOS 4.2.1. However, This is because the mobile redirect javascript is broken, and is thawing an error on line 13. Tom Hopper (talk) 05:04, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

Same problem for me since 4-Mar-2011. (iPhone 3GS, iOS 4.2.1). Clicking on "Go to the the mobile website", takes me to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page, and future requests are not redirected to the Mobile version. The problem occurred after I viewed a page on regular Wikipedia in order to edit it. Clearing cookies and cache on iPhone (Settings/Safari) does not resolve this.
When (if?) this is fixed, I suggest the the link is renamed to "Redirect future Wikipedia links to Mobile Version" Bigchip (talk) 06:38, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

Still having this problem with my iPhone. Rpstroud1 23 April 2012

I have iPhone 4 with 4.2.1 and I can't get the mobile version to auto redirct anymore after clicking on the enable mobile link. It used to work right up until a few days ago. Can someone please let me know when there is a solution. -- Preceding unsigned comment added by BadgerBoy2000 (talk o contribs) 12:19, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

I'm sorry you're having problems. I've posted at the technical help desk. -- John of Reading (talk) 08:01, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

I'm also no longer redirected to the mobile version of wikipedia on my non-jailbroken, iPhone 4 with iOS 4.2.1 via Safari and Atomic, and this restore link does not help. Extremely frustrating! And to think I just made a big donation. Grrr. Thanks for any help available! 68.205.26.8 (talk) 19:10, 9 March 2011 (UTC)

As of May 8th, this is still not working. I have tried this link many of the past few days. 60.226.140.63 (talk) 10:32, 8 May 2012 (UTC)

Not. Working. On itouch second generation. Used to always be directed to mobile site, not I'm not. And for the love of god can someone move the "mobile site" link from the bottom of the page to the top. Its a stupid place to put since one has to load entire damn page to get to it, THEN switch to mobile -- Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.118.60.18 (talk) 12:25, 15 May 2012 (UTC)

This still is a problem. Thr Damned thing keeps going into Mobile mode no matter how often I click in Desktop. UrbanTerrorist (talk) 21:54, 22 September 2014 (UTC)

Please add support for Sony Reader

I am using the new Sony Reader PRS-T1 Wi-Fi to access the mobile version of Wikipedia. The Reader seems to have underlying Android and uses an Android browser. Mobile Wikipedia is being displayed perfectly when you manually go to m.wikipedia.org. However, after doing a search, I am being directed to normal non-mobile Wikipedia articles. Of course, I would like to stay on en.m.wikipedia.org. Could you provide a solution for users of Sony Reader? (This has been written on said device) -- Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.142.25.123 (talk) 07:31, 6 November 2011 (UTC)

I have the same problem! It's possible to go to mobile version on the Sony Reader PRS-T1, but whenever you click on something or do a search it keeps going back to 'standard' non-mobile Wikipedia. Does anyone have an idea of why this is happening on this device? --Lawrence Heap (talk) 08:45, 7 November 2011 (UTC)

Dolphin HD Support

This no longer works since upgrading to Dolphin HD v8.0.0 on my Android device (was fine with previous versions). If someone could fix that, it would be greatly appreciated. -- Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.180.16.40 (talk) 02:09, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
